Wheel upgrade?

    Hi

I’m thinking of buying some new wheels to upgrade my ‘best’ bike – a Cannondale CAAD 10 which currently has Mavic Aksium wheels on it. The plan would be to put the Aksiums on my Genesis Equilibrium winter/commuter bike and then put the new wheels on the CAAD.

I’ve had a look at some Mavic Ksyrium Elite S wheels on Wiggle for £420.

I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading generally, and for people to perhaps suggest some alternatives.

I’m 6’0, and around 13st 9 if that helps at all (but planning to lose a bit of weight).

Budget would be around the £400 mark (or ideally a bit below).

    Cheers

Had a set built at LBS for about that money with H Plus Son chromed rims and Halo hubs. The genius of this was the rims have a braking surface and the hubs have 6 bolt disc mounts, so they fit my CX and my road bike. Ridden them about 1200 miles I’d guess on 2 bikes. Stiff, quick and look amazing. Really 2 wheelsets for the price of one. Freewheel sounds mental too 😉

I have some ksyriums, they’re good but like AndyNotts I find they do need truing every now & again.
The zondas are £253 at wiggle at present, a really good price & the reviewers seem to rate them highly, tempted myself.

    Fulcrum R3 or Zondas. They’re
Fulcrum R3 or Zondas. They’re the same and tolerate heavy riders (even 110 kg ones) very well on rough roads. Cannot find more durable wheels than those at that price range.

    check bike24.com or wiggle

    +1 for Fulcrums, very
+1 for Fulcrums, very efficient and you can swap the freehub between Shimano and Campag in about 3 minutes (once you’ve got the cassette off).

Fulcrum are nice but the Campagnolo Zondas are nice. Same as fulcrum 3s but a bit cheaper, guess it depends on your groupset.

I’ve had Ksyrium on my bike a couple of years now, I’m about the same height and weight. Depending how much you ride, in my experience, they need truing about every 6 months.
    I’m happy with them.

I’m thinking about Fulcrum Racing 3’s but like all things bike related there seems to be a myriad of choices!
