Help : Smaller Handlebar bag required

    I’m looking for a handlebar bag that doesn’t go any further forward than the front of your brakes on a road bike and can carry a Sony Nex (or similar CSC-sized) camera. Can anyone suggest something, please?

    I currently have the Ortlieb Ultimate6 (attached to the bike via their version of the Rixen Kaul Bar Mount). It’s a great bag but pushes the weight far to far forward (and its larger than I need). I want to get the weight back in against the (road) bars and therefore fore/aft centered over the front wheel hub.

    Something like this (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/altura/transit-bar-bag-ec059575 ) would be perfect if it didn’t also get pushed so far forward by its Rixen Kaul Bar Mount (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/rixen-kaul-klickfix-handlebar-bracket/). And its that bar mount that seems to be the problem ~X( – it seems to have become an industry standard and pushes the back of the bag 7+cm out in front of the bar. Anyone know a bar mount that avoids pushing the bag so far forward?

    I have a Pentax Q which with a 5-15 lens fits inside a medium sis Topeak seat post bag. I know this doesn’t quite answer your question but if you have not yet bought a camera the the successor to the Q might be an option with a saddle bag? Not as easy to get to but i have never found it a problem. I have also put it in a triathlete style top tube bag which sits just behind the stem.

    It is surprisingly good, looks a bit like a ladies bag if you’re carrying it with the supplied shoulder strap but what the hey. I’ve carried DSLR & spare lenses in it.

    its discrete, has a suitably stiff backplate for on the bars so no flapping about and banging your fingers or stuff inside it, well made, quite tardis like for its appearance, nicely waterproof in its own right & comes with rain cover, can click on and off one handed & even in the winteriest of thick gloves, has a zip up back flap for not catching the clip on yourself off the bike and you can get additional bar mounts for a few quid if you would wish to use it on more than one bike.

    I highly recommend it

    Have a look at the carradice
    Have a look at the carradice zipped roll. They sell it as a saddle bag, but it can also fasten to the bars if you’re that way inclined.

    The Alpkitt “stem cell” looks an interesting propostion but not quite large enough for the camera. The large Alpkitt fuel cell is a possibility (but not a handle bar bag) – I wonder if my knees would hit it on a road bike, given its width?
    The Apidura handlebar pack looks good for clothes, but with no top openning would be a pain for a camera.
    The Clas Ohlson certain looks promising- its bar attachment appears to be shorter than the RK mount, putting the bag closer to the bar. Just trying to track it down from a retailer that ships to Japan (Clas don;t)….

    Any other suggestions greatfully recieved!

    You could get a Carridice for £65.
