First Road Bike- Marathoner turning Biker :)

    Hi all

    Am a runner who now wants to get into the world of triathlons (Olympic distance to begin with…baby steps you know!). As a start – want to invest in an aluminium frame bike and have shortlisted the following options:

    Specialized Allez Comp
    Giant Defy 1
    Scott Speedster 10(With Ultegra group Set!)
    Cannon dale Caad8 105

    Which of the above do you wise people think should make the cut? I have heard that Scott frames aren’t as good and that’s why they are able to offer a bike in this price range with an Ultegra drivetrain! Are these rumours true and should I strike out Scott from the list ?

    Please be aware that I live in India and above are the only brands that are available here.

    Am so looking forward to hearing from you guys on your informed views about a rookie query 🙂

    I am not a slave to “the rules” and mostly see them as a source of amusement but one of my favourites is that you should only run when getting chased and even then only fast enough to evade capture.

    I would not be concerned
    I would not be concerned about the weight or groupsets when choosing the bike, 105 and ultegra are similar, there is a small weight saving on the ultegra but they feel pretty much the same and are both quick enough for a bit of racing. Especially now that 105 have the new 11 speed technology and the more definite clicks like ultegra used to have.

    Sit on the bikes if you can, see which one fits your riding style, sitting on them or maybe taking one for a test ride is best. They look like they have similar sportive geometries anyway. Pick the one you like the look of most and it will have far more of an influence on your speed than small differences in components. If the bike screams “ride me fast” thats the most important thing.

    Internal cables on the scott seem like a good thing on paper but in real life it is a pain trying to maintain or adjust them, unless you are very into your bike maintenance.
