    anyone riding this set up,
at the moment I’m using 50-34 with an 11-32 cassette and i love it,
i enter a lot of the hillyer sportives and have a little bucket list of all the major climbs in the uk.
next year I’m booked to do the wiggle dragon ride and and also going to the alps to do alp dhuez and col du galibier.
I have just ordered a new canyon ultimate cf slx, the bike comes with 52/36-11/28 and canyon don’t allow you to change it,
Will i really have to spend more money out changing it to compact?

after bikboys comments i mite give the 36/52 ago before i spend the money on the new chainrings and cassette

    I went from a perennial 50/34
I went from a perennial 50/34 user to 52/36 when I bought my R3 this year, and was worried how I would manage on Toys Hill etc, not being a whippet by any stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn’t conceive going back to a 50/34 now. Paired with 11-28, for me it’s the perfect ratio. I no longer spin out going down Ide Hill as I used to.

    Horses for courses, of course.

Mid compact is gaining popularity fast. Depends if you use the 34-32 a lot.

You can change the rings but
You can change the rings but they’ll probably cost nearly as much as a full new chainset.

Can you swap the chainset over from your other bike?

    It’s already a compact
It’s already a compact chainset with 110 bcd so you could swap the rings but it’s not the most effective way to lower your gearing. If you like the low end of 34/32 then you are best off fitting an 11-32 cassette to the new bike. Might need a rear mech change to a medium cage as well.
