Clip on mudguards?

    I’m looking to get a new bike that will be for all year round riding. The one I want, Raleigh Ravenio 4 disc, doesn’t have mudguard mounts for the front (the rear does) so was wondering what clip on mudguards are out there? I’ve used Cruds in the past but they zip tie around the brake which can’t happen here as it’s a disc bike.

    My 2013 version of the CX team has a drilled fork crown and proper eyelets.
    Why they didn’t leave these for the 2014 version is a mystery.

    There are Raceblades that fix
    There are Raceblades that fix to the normal mounts and also ones that clip on.

    I’ve got the clip-on sort on the back wheel of my CX and it sits nicely, unfortunately the clip for the front one sits exactly where the cable guide is on the front fork so I can’t fit the damn thing. X(

    Good question, one that only the Product Manager at Raleigh can answer for certain.

    My guess is that they’ll make different versions with different forks. The disc fork variant doesn’t have a drilled crown for the brake mount (maybe for cost or aesthetic reasons) whereas the non-disc version does and can fit ‘guards.

    If you want full mudguards you’ll have to look elsewhere.

    I am looking at Cross bikes too but prefer the look and slightly different geometry on road bikes. I don’t ride a lot in winter as I’m very much a fair weather rider but wanted mudguards for when I do.

    The weird thing is, the rear of the Ravenio has mudguard and rack mounts so why not have the same on the front?

    No it doesn’t look like it does from the pictures I’ve seen. It looks to have plenty of clearance though.

    By looking at the Raceblades, the front one doesn’t look like it has a fixing to the fork crown.

    Manufacturers realy need to start pruducing more frames with mudguard clearance and eyes, for most riders who don’t race it is no inconvenience and is a lot more practical.
    I think you should ask why you want this particular bike and look for one that takes proper mudguards with room for decent tyres?

    Without that you’ve got no chance, clip on or otherwise.

    I have SKS Race Blade Longs
    I have SKS Race Blade Longs on my race bike which has very minimal clearance (max tire width I can fit is 25mm) and they fit perfectly. They provide decent coverage on the front and rear wheels but if you do group rides you’ll want to add a buddy flap as you can still spray the guy drafting behind you. If you don’t use shoe covers a front wheel buddy flap will keep the spray off your feet too. They are a bit of a pain to mount if you have tight clearance like my bike does (Pinarello Marvel) so I paid the LBS that I bought them from $20 to do it for me and it only took him 20 min to do, much faster than the hours some people have experienced. Can have them off or back on literally in seconds. Very durable too unlike the Crud fenders which I’ve heard are brittle and snap off easily.

    have a look at the raceblade Xl these tend to work better on cross bikes etc although not giving you full coverage they will give u some protection.

    My wife’s bike has SKS
    My wife’s bike has SKS Raceblades on it which go off/on in seconds and look good on the bike. I’ve got Crud Roadracers, as I’ve got more clearance, but to be honest when we get back from a winter ride, both bikes are just as ‘grubby’ so I wonder whether the Crud’s are worth the ‘faff’ of putting them off/on (and the infernal ‘scraping’ if the mounts slip). People on here rate Raceblade longs but they may not work on your bike and you need reasonable clearance between the tyre and frame.
