Castelli sizing….

    Just looking for a little bit of help please….as the rain is clearly not done yet, I’m going to bite the bullet and buy a short sleeved Gabba but don’t know what to do re the sizing; +1 / +2 ??

    I’m 6′ 1″ and ~72kgs – not as lean as I would like to be – so would like to leave a little to the imagination :O Typically buy jerseys in a large so am thinking the Gabba should be an XL? I would want the option of using a base layer, so need to factor that in. Would be quite depressing to have to order an XXL but, heh, that’s Italian sizing on a slightly chubby Brit..

    What d’ya reckon?

    I try to buy as much as possible from my LBS, I know I pay more but I want them to be there when I need them.

    In October I enquired about a Gabba and they told me that they were not expecting a delivery until after Christmas, so I bought on line.

    I did something quite radical, I went to a building that I think is called a shop that has people in it who can bring you a range of sizes until you find the jacket that fits. I was then able to pay and walk away with the correct piece of kit.
    No inconvenience of waiting in for a delivery.
    No inconvenience of having to go back to the Post Office in order to return the incorrect size.
    All in all, I was surprised that my 183cms and more or less 70kg frame required an XL, but at least I had the correct sized jacket and NanoFlex arm warmers in my hand- all for the princely sum of 135GBP.

    I’m 6’0″ and 72 kg, 38-39″
    I’m 6’0″ and 72 kg, 38-39″ chest. I’m slim rather than skinny. I am a large in Castelli uppers. The race fit jerseys are nicely snug on me. I don’t like bits flapping about in the wind so the fit is perfect. If I put on a bit of weight (getting up to 75kg) I feel they’re a bit tight but that’s motivation enough to ride more miles.

    For the bottoms I’m ok with a large for the the general fit around the waist and legs but find the bib short straps a bit short so I go for XL.

    If you order from Castelli cafe you can return and swap. You can even order both sizes and return the one you don’t fit – they’re nice people to shop from.

    I’m 5’10” and 67kg and either
    I’m 5’10” and 67kg and either fit a medium or a large Castelli top depending on the cut. I tried both size Gabbas and went for the medium in the end. With a moderate thickness baselayer it’s a perfect snug race fit. The large was too big and would have flapped around and been too long at the front.

    I suspect you need a large, but as a Gabba isn’t a cheap bit of kit I suggest you try both. BTW the Gabba is superb and well worth the eye-watering price.

    I think you’ll be very happy with the Gabba. I just got the convertible jacket last month and wore it during a torrential downpour last week–raining buckets, deep pools of standing water in the road and even hail! After 3 hours in 15C I was still toasty warm and just slightly damp along my torso. Warm, very water-resistant, and highly breathable. Def worth the expense if you live in a rainy climate like I do. Wore my Nanoflex bib knickers too and the water mostly beaded off my legs (and streamed down my shin straight into my socks underneath my shoe covers, sigh) so my legs were damp at the end but still warm.

    FYI: I am 5’4″, 55kg, and 32C chest (yes, I’m a girl) and the small is roomy enough on me that I can wear a baselayer and even a jersey under it but it’s still close enough fitting that I don’t get wind flap. My husband is 6′, 42″ chest and 80 kg and he fits an XL in Castelli for jerseys. The Gabba is a bit roomier than a jersey so he’d probably be an XL in it. Hope this helps.

    *disclosure – I’m 6′ and 70kg

    I have mostly Castelli M in both jerseys/vests/jackets with the occasional S, so I can’t quite see why you’d need to go beyond large.

    If in doubt, buy two sizes and get a refund for the lesser fit.

    I echo the +1 size for
    I echo the +1 size for castelli stuff (in comparison to Endura/Rapha/Gore), but +2 would defeat the point of the garment which is to be a close fit.

    With Castelli, I always go
    With Castelli, I always go one size up. Most of these stuff seems to be in “race fit” which means, unless I want to look pregnant, I go for XL
