Sorry for the linguistic pun but thought it was interesting.
Who else might it be?
Not Wiggo……

I tend to agree that Evans is
I tend to agree that Evans is a little on the craggy side for OGE to be investing in if they are serious about GC. Dennis is a good choice, one for the future and they would have time to build a team around him. Thomas has said he was looking at offers, but I doubt if he gives them anything more than they might already have, In the same vein Slagter always goes well down under. Thinking outside the box, perhaps a Columbian? Betacur is still very young. I really think that Porte would be the best fit, and the outstanding candidate though.drheaton
Porte is an odd one, in
Porte is an odd one, in theory he could be a GT contender but he strikes me as a perennial top ten rather than real threat. Certainly he’d be a big coup for Orica and I can see why he’d leave Sky, much like Uran he may want to be top dog in the biggest races and not just a super domestique.Evans is having a good Giro but I can’t imagine it’d make financial sense to sign him, he’ll be expensive and this could possibly be his last good year, surely only a team desperate for World Tour points would throw him a big contract now.
Dennis may be tempted, he’s definitely GC material (much like TJVG) and I can see why he might want a team built around him at Orica rather than being one of a few good GC guys at Garmin (Danielson, Acevedo, Hesjedal, Martin). Moving to Orica should get him a Tour leaders spot earlier than with Garmin.
The question is, which of them is out of contract this year?

I’m not sure Old Man Cadel
I’m not sure Old Man Cadel would be the right fit for OGE. Dennis might, but is he out-and-out GC? More of a Wiggo-lite.Porte would do well, though. And I reckon they could fashion a pretty strong team around him, strong enough to challenge in a grand tour GC in a couple of years’ time – the Yates brothers, Weening, Durbridge, Impey… all strong guys.
They’d have to give up on their usual stage-hunting though, which would be a shame. Even without parking buses on finish lines, they do liven up the races and bring their own character to them.

I thought teams weren’t
I thought teams weren’t allowed to conduct transfer business during the first half of the season. If they are making an announcement within the month it would have to be a rider currently unattached to another pro team.I’m not sure one of the really big GC names would go to Orica as they don’t really have the team to help win a mountainous Grand Tour. They must want an Australian GC rider in the team, but at the moment the best ones; Evans, Porte, Rodgers and Dennis are in other teams.
Stumps
my money is on Evans, BMC are
my money is on Evans, BMC are in a bit of turmoil at the mo with who is and who isnt GC riders, too many cooks as the saying goes.Porte has made it perfectly clear he wants to go for GC in one of the GT’s but do Orica have the team to back him up ? i seriously doubt it at the mo as they are more for stage wins.

Talk is that Orica have said
Talk is that Orica have said they will make an announcement within the month of a big GC name. Could be Evans I suppose or Rodgers but Porte has been awfully quiet recently Enrique,
