I know this question has been asked before and I have done a search, but couldn’t find my answer.
So I’ve got £100 worth of John Lewis vouchers and after an horrendous week of commuting (despite brilliant weather) decided to finally bite the bullet and get a helmet cam. The benefit of the vouchers is they make a helmet cam much cheaper than usual; the downside is I’m limited to three and I am struggling to pick which one.
Help me spend my money! The choices are:
Garmin Virb – Not the Elite version. John Lewis have this for £229. http://www.johnlewis.com/garmin-virb-1080p-hd-action-camera/p895761
Go Pro Hero3 silver edition – £279, £50 more expensive http://www.johnlewis.com/gopro-hero3-silver-edition-camcorder-hd-1080p-10mp-wi-fi/p777801
Sony HDR-AS30V – I hadn’t heard of this one until I saw it on the John Lewis website, but it is the same price as the Virb and has GPS included. The only thing is that it appears that Sony’s software for doing the GPS overlay on the videos doesn’t (yet) work with my Mac running OSX (Mavericks). http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-hdr-as30v-action-cam-camcorder-hd-1080p-16mp-wi-fi-nfc-gps-with-waterproof-case-and-handsfree-kit/p1107157
If anybody has got one of the above cameras, please let me have your thoughts. At the moment, I’m tending towards the Sony as, even without the GPS, the reviews are that it has good image quality (apparently better than the go pro) and that’s the most important thing!
