Mystery Clicking….

    I have an annoying mystery clicking noise on my winter bike (Trek 1.5, aluminium) I’ve been trying to work out what’s causing it but am running out of ideas. It only happens when I’m out of the saddle and doesn’t seem to matter what gear I’m in and is once or twice per pedal rev.

    So far I’ve worked out by changing various parts:
    Not the pedals
    Not the chainset/bottom bracket
    Not rear wheel/cassette

    It does it on the turbo and on the road, so I don’t think it’s the headset? And it seems to be worse when pulling hard on the bars.

    Has anyone worked out anything similar before, or have any bright ideas as to what it might be? I guess my worry is it could be something to do with the frame…

    Any help appreciated!

    No problem glad I could help ….switch to plastic or carbon cages and it should never return 😉

    sounds like handlebars / stem
    sounds like handlebars / stem could be a likely culprit. Try taking them off and cleaning the clamping surfaces then re-assemble- make sure you tighten them correctly and evenly.

    What material are your bottle
    What material are your bottle cages? If metal try taking them off and just use it on the turbo or rollers to see.if it’s still there ….

    Only other thing I can think of is a loose spoke check every one is tight ….

    I’ve had both of the above happen on the mtb and the spoke tension was the hardest to determine
