Freehub replacement/upgrade

I’m aiming to upgrade my Shimano Sora/Tiagra mishmash 9 speed groupset and basic wheelset. I’m happy with my frameset (GT GTR Series 3 2010). I’m looking at the Ultegra 11 speed groupset and the Shimano RS81 C24 wheelset (11 speed compatible).

I would like to keep my old wheels as winter/spares/turbo trainer (back wheel). This would mean changing the cassette to 11 speed and, if I’m thinking correctly, the Tiagra 9 speed freehub to a Shimano 11 speed compatible freehub.

I’ve been looking at YouTube and Google and it looks fairly straightforward to replace the freehub itself.

Looking into the compatibility of changing from 9 speed to 11 speed, that also looks doable.

Has anyone here done this? Does anyone know if I’m ust talking out of my behind?

I think, and I may be wrong here, that the 11 speed freehub body is wider
than the 9 so wouldn’t fit. fwiw I think the 11 speed hubs are something
like 131mm rather than 130mm as well !!

Ok. So it seems possible in theory. But… I’m struggling to find a Shimano 11 speed freehub body that will fit a Tiagra (9 speed) hub. Would I get away with buying a complete Ultegra 6800 rear hub and just using the freehub to fit on the Tiagra 9 speed hub assuming the fittings and the widths are the same?

Different manufacturer’s hubs seem to have different fittings (Zipp, DT Swiss, PowerTap, Mavic) and their 11 speed (Shimano cassette compatible) freehubs don’t appear to be compatible with Shimano hubs.

    I changed my 9-speed Ultegra
I changed my 9-speed Ultegra to 11-speed Ultegra by swapping out the freehub on my Mavic Ksyrium hub. The replacement Mavic freehub was about $50 (Australian) so much cheaper than rebuilding a wheel. I did not use a spacer for the new cluster and it has worked perfectly with the Ultegra 6800 (11-speed) groupset.
