Campagnolo record mechanical vs Athena EPS

    Hi, i’m about to buy a new steed but can’t decide between buying Campag record mechanical or Athena EPS. Any first hand experiences/thoughts welcome. i’ve briefly ridden EPS and love the sharp hassle free shifting but can’t decide whether going for record mechanical is perhaps more reliable or a bit less flash.

    Personally, unless I had money to burn and several standby bikes, I would avoid electric shifting, it’s still in the early adoption phase and without the hidden battery, pretty ugly!

    record is lovely Gruppo and I have a 20 year old set (…not the brakes !) that I use for a few thousand miles each year and it’s always gets commented on, the carbon 11 will be the same.

    The comments people seem to get with EPS and Di2 are ‘has it broke yet’.

    For me, cycling is all about mechanical simplicity, man in full control of the machine, and this extra wee layer, well it’s like wearing a helmet…..eventually you will because everyone else does.

    Save yourself a few hundred
    Save yourself a few hundred grams going record instead of EPS.
    I had a similar situation recently and went chorus instead of Athena eps.

    Mechanical. You don’t need to
    Mechanical. You don’t need to charge it up, and your frame won’t be obsolete as soon as there’s a new and improved wiring method.

    Personally, I would go for
    Personally, I would go for the Record mechanical.

    I don’t race and don’t see the need for anything electronic on my bikes other than a speedo or GPS map.
