Help fixing play in rear hub

    Hi Forum – hoping a mechanic can point me the right way here.

    My rear wheel – an Easton Vista SL from 2010 – has developed a noticeable amount of play in the hub – about 1mm at the wheel rim.

    On examination, it looks like a sealed system – I can’t see any form of cup-and-cone adjustment I can make.

    * Is there anything I can do about it, other than replacement?

    * Is it safe to keep on using?

    Personally, I would just get some new cartridges and replace them, but its all about what you are confident doing.

    Have you got a decent local shop who could do it for you, while showing you what to do at the same time?

    I would say take them to me and I’ll do it cheap, but I’m a bit far away, plus my workshop isn’t open till 3rd Feb 😉

    Thanks Gkam – I think if you know of any good videos or exploded part diagrams for servicing such a hub, that would be a real help. Google is giving me a lot of results but nothing of actual relevance.

    I guess my fear is that I undo something on the hub and there’s an explosion of springs, leaving me with a wrecked wheel.

    They should be sealed
    They should be sealed cartridge bearings. If you can find that, they will have a code on them somewhere, then just search the code and find replacements.
