Ride's Prologue 2 waist shorts are made from a 190g weight Lycra that is comfortable next to the skin and provides good breathability in a range of temperatures.
With no bib straps, it's down to the elasticated waist band to keep the shorts in place. Ultimately, they're not as comfortable as bib shorts, but I was impressed with how comfortable they were considering. They're well suited to short rides, commuting or for donning under a pair of jeans, baggy or touring shorts, without incurring the fuss of bib straps.
They're constructed with flat-lock seams which improves comfort against the skin, and the multi-panel design is anatomical so they fit around the legs really nicely. Silicone gripper tape around the leg openings stops the shorts riding up out of place. A couple of reflective logos boosts visibility.
Inside the short is a medium density Dr.Pad Doc35 Bicolour padded insert. It has a variable thickness, from 3 to 6mm, and this ensures it's a slim insert yet with enough depth of padding to keep you comfortable, even on longer jaunts. Considering the asking price for these shorts, it's brilliant to get such a comfortable pad.
Five sizes from S to XXL are available.
Verdict
Affordable and comfortable cycling shorts without the bib straps, also good for slipping under jeans or touring shorts.
