The Lezyne Micro floor drive HVG mini floor hand pump with gauge is basically a miniaturised track pump designed to be carted around on your frame’s bottle bosses. HV denotes high volume: it’s capable of raising a completely flat 700×35 tyre to 85psi in 163 strokes and three minutes. The resin frame-fit bracket could be improved, though. Its similarly-constructed high pressure sibling is a better option for sportier road rubber.

Performance is convincing with mid section (1.3″ – 1.6″) mountain bike rubber and the integral gauge is accurate enough to be useful. However, care is needed to avoid accidentally pressing the ABS bleed valve and undoing some of your efforts when uncoupling the hose from a Schrader end. This ABS patented technology features elsewhere in the range: the theory goes that by expelling residual air languishing in the hose (before disconnecting it from the valve stem) you extend the life of the O-ring seals while simultaneously eliminating the risk of removing Presta valve cores.

Speaking of which, combining a screw-on head and generous length of sturdy hose means there’s very little chance of shearing off a valve, although I still love the outright convenience of smart types.

There’s 30cms of beautifully crafted from CNC machined aluminium, and the oversized internal piston does a good job of pushing the air. There’s 3mm stainless steel foot peg that optimises every stroke, providing extra support when driving those final few psi home. Being a relatively soft metal, employing it track pump fashion will scratch the base and has only been necessary with a 26×1.4 tyres demanding 80psi. For the most part, the pump can be cupped in the palm and employed like a hand pump.

Compared with some shop branded master blasters, the handle feels tiny but it’s comfortable enough when grasped between thumb and fore-fingers. 90 strokes and two minutes raised an empty tarmac-biased 26×1.6 to 45psi. It took 170 and four minutes to hit their 70psi optimum.

Towards the upper range, there’s a moderate amount of resistance, though I never felt it was going to lock out. The accessory kit means it will also work its magic on beach balls, buoyancy aids and the like.

Generally intuitive to use, I’d recommend a few practice runs from the comfort of home before you find yourself in a wet lay-by. While it looks gorgeous, 216g is quite a lot to lug on the bottle bosses and given high volume is more commonly associated with riding off road, the resin bracket isn’t nearly so well engineered as it could be. That’s the main disappointment in the package. In common with its high pressure sibling, unless fasteners and Velcro straps are tethered tourniquet tight, the pump has a tendency to shiffle downwards and tap at the frame wood-pecker fashion. Consequently, ours has moved between pannier and SQR saddlebag. A shame, since a snap shut closure would overcome the present bracket’s limitations without hindering release.

Verdict

Decent option for quick inflation of wider section tyres let down by so-so mounting bracket.

6/10

Quite portly for a frame fit but by no means unreasonable given the materials and construction.

Rate the product for comfort (if applicable)

7/10

Delivers decent pressures reasonably proficiently, although ours came close to locking out when ramming the final few psi home.

Not cheap but well made.

Tell us how the product performed overall when used for its designed purpose

Overall, the Micro Floor drive HGV is an extremely practical option for those running beefier section road or mtb tyres. Genuinely capable of delivering 90psi into a 700×35 in around 3 minutes, it is pleasant to use and the integral gauge relatively accurate. However, it deserves a more substantial bracket.

Tell us what you particularly liked about the product

Efficient and extremely solid inflator with user-friendly features and capable of higher pressures.

Tell us what you particularly disliked about the product

More substantial snap-close bracket would be welcomed.

Did you enjoy using the product? Yes

Would you consider buying the product? Quite possibly-if Lezyne revised the existing bracket.
