Tri Bars on Giant Propel

Has anyone managed to fit tri bars to an aero road bike? More specifically the aero, not round handlebars

I know there are many websites dedicated triathlon but I'm sure they buy the full tri bike. But a more practical option for me would be a aero road bike which can have the bars added when needed.

Thanks

Tri bars

Hi Tommyexmoor! - I'm having an ongoing 'mare finding tri-bar clamps for my 2019 Propel Advanced 1 Disc and wonder if you can rescue me (the full thread here, only if you're interested https://road.cc/content/forum/266752-aero-clip-ons-giant-propel-advanced...).

I need a setup where I can adjust the elbow rest/pad backwards - nearer my knees if you like - to achieve my correct bikefitted aero position for loooong, 6-8 hr events. Wouldn't bother for shorter events but need to be comfy.

Giant make 2 different tribar clamps - the ones you have, which I think are adjustable backwards/forwards, and then there's the set recommended for my bars (which are the 2nd link below - straighter, without the centre 'pinch') BUT these recommended clamps only adjust left/right (and look like this https://www.giantbikespares.com/Giant-Contact-SL-Aero-Clip-On-Clamp-for-...).

Can't tell from your picture so in a nutshell I guess my question is - are your bars the 'Contact SLR Aero Road Handlebar'

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/contact-slr-aero-road-handlebar

OR the 'Giant Contact SLR Aero Handlebar'

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/giant-contact-slr-aero-handlebar

If you're bars are also the 2nd link bars then I should be able to use the same clamps as you and live happily ever after.

Cheers

G

Hello, I have the Giant Propel Advanced 1 Disc (2019) and I've been looking for Aerobars that can be installed onthis bike, but the information is quite confusing. Maybe you can provide some guidance here, please:

So, my bike has the Conatct SL (not SLR) Aero handlebar. Then what type of clip-on clamps should I use or can I use to properly install the aerobars on this bike? Notice that my bike is size XS, so not much space in the handlebar.

Thanks

I have just fitted the contact sl clamps and carbon extension bars on my propel. It was fairly straight forward, not cheap though. The clamps are specifically designed for the flat slr bars and I'll upload a picture after work 1

The above looks like a tailor made solution. The only other would be to try and source aero bars that have a round profile section where the stem clamps to which is big enough to take the width f the stem plus the tri-bar clamps as well. Not easy I guess.

And ideally they will need to be alu as clamping to carbon bars is not recommended. Something like this for example:

https://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/bontrager-elite-aero-vr-cf-handlebar....

I got some of these at a ludicrous price - they are 'slightly' aero only, nothing like the profile of other aero bars:

I have these Bontrager bars, and they work nicely for this.  I got them specifically because I wanted to not only fit aero extensions for triathlons, but also wanted to be able to easily fit my computer mount and headlight for the majority of my riding without having to come up with some crazy solution.  Obviously not the best/lightest option for aero-profile bars (and the internal cable routing in them can be a bit of a faff), but they do the job without hitting the wallet too hard.

Giant make specific aero-bar attachments for their bars, see: https://www.giantbikespares.com/Giant-Contact-SL-Aero-Clip-On-Clamp-for-...

The issue with a generic option is that the cross-section aerofoil profile of the bars vary between manufacturers depending on what they specify is the "most aero" or "most cost-effective" for production.
