Spinal issues explains it. My son who has had spinal surgery and has had to have his neck fused would need to have bike like this so he can see where he's going, and not doing stem staring all the time as he is unable to tilt his head back. So yes unsightly but allows him to get out and ride.
He's either got spinal issues or arm reach like a T. rex.
I'm about the same height on the same-sized frame and that steerer extension is just all kinds of bizarre.

Comes as carbon frame, fork and alloy steerer.....fork must shudder like hell with that extended steerer!
Brand new that bike is under £2000. So not only does it look awful but it is priced at probably double its actual second hand value.
Shouldn't be using a steering extender with forks with a carbon steerer tube, so hope it's ally .......
It's cruel to mock but I do wonder whether the "attention this bike catches everytime and everywhere" is all genuine... I reckon his son dodged a bullet. I'm almost tempted to bid just to spare him...
