For online lift-hunting, try www.blablacar.com. Maybe someone would divert off the M6 if you asked nicely.
You could see if the organisers or a local transport firm would help out - could be a bit of money in it for them if they could recruit a few more. Try www.westerndalesbus.co.uk.
If you can bag the bike in a compact form you might get away with the regular Stagecoach 555 service from Kendal to Lancaster - but that's a risk and it might be better to check ahead with them. A 'coach' type bus would have space in the hold but not a regular town bus.
Or as CXR94Di2 suggested, car hire. If you took a train to Manchester Airport you could probably get a cheap car and be in the Lakes pretty quickly. You might even find someone else to help recoup the cost (blablacar again).
