I'm moving to Cambridge later this year and I'm half excited and half dreading it. At least it's quite flat.......
DfT advice:
More at http://think.direct.gov.uk/cycling.html#tips
so we should all ride single file in the centre of the lane where the lane is only as wide as a car or less than 1m wider than a car? that would really drive them nuts.
"But the Government told me to do it..."
Yes, unless you want to be knocked off by a passing mirror (or something larger).
It may annoy drivers who are easily wound up, just like having to stick to speed limits or leaving their phone alone while driving, but as far as I'm concerned it's tough sh*t. This is a safety issue - your life is worth more than their convenience.
IME a lot of the time when Mr (or Ms) Impatient passes in a place like that the result is that they to tailgate the car in front 5 seconds sooner. Tossers.
true, but riding two abreast will still prevent unsafe passes, and the line of cycles they have to pass will be twice the length and so harder to pass.
Just read the comments and I must say they add up to a pretty intelligent discussion when compared to the stuff you get in the Bristol Post!
Ta muchly; pretty small beer, but at least a quick read.
You know what they say never let the truth get in the way of a story.
Some of the posters on here certainly adhere to that.
I'm a bit conflicted; I'd like to read it, but I don't want to give them page views to encourage uploading this kind of click-bait. Any chance of a summary or a Google-cache link?

There we go, archived for posterity, ahem. Would normally use archive.is, but that messes up the page formatting.
When I'm riding into work there are all these cars causing congestion and hogging the roads. I think that Something Should Be Done
Been all over this on twitter The "hogging" language comes from terrible journalist Raymond Brown, not the police, who (in the quoted bit in the report- which is 100% of what they said) had bascially just passed on the moans of idiots to cycle clubs.
As a broader issue, the meeting the report was prepared for was over a month ago; the report published at least a week before hand. Yet this was the front page story of the local paper in the UK#s most cycle friendly city this morning. The awful "journalist" had gone digging, found this, added his own cycle-hating emotive language to it. The editor has then looked at this and decided that it merits prime position on the news stands.
