Specialized has added the Airnet to its 2016 helmet range, a £100 model inspired by the latest crop of aerodynamic helmets.

Cycle helmet choice has exploded over the years and prices have tumbled, and the list of features you get in a mid-range helmet now makes it harder to justify the cost of the top-end models. The £100 price point is a popular one in the helmet market so it’s no surprise Specialized has launched its latest model into this competitive marketplace.

The new helmet doesn’t look to take many styling cues from Specialized’s two top-end helmets though, the lightweight Prevail and the aerodynamic Evade. In fact the styling looks closer to Giro’s Synthe, with a semi-aero appearance that looks very current.

The Airnet is constructed with composite matrix internal reinforcement and has 20 forward-facing air vents and three large rear ports. A Mindset micro-dial retention system holds the helmet in place and is height adjustable, and it has 4X DryLite webbing system and drirelease Merino wool pads inside. One nice detail is the addition of reflective decals.

Specialized hasn’t released a weight for the new Airnet.

The new Airnet costs £100 and is available in three colours and three sizes. More at www.specialized.com/gb/gb/ftr/helmets/mens-road-helmets/airnet#features
