There are normally three material options when it comes to bottle cages, plastic, carbon fibre or aluminium and it's the latter that GT have chosen for their Corsa cage, 6061-T5 to be precise.
It's a one-piece design, pressed into shape which should mean no weaknesses anywhere or welds to fail over time.
The curved 'arms' provide a good tight fit on both 500 or 750ml bottles and although tight to begin with, making getting your bottle in and out a touch fiddly, they soon relax. They still provide plenty of compression to stop your bottle jettisoning off down the road though. The outer edges are rolled which makes lining your bottle up pretty easy too.
A weight of 47g is about right for an aluminium cage and there are four colour options, black, white, red and silver, all finished in a high gloss paint.
To allow for slight tolerances in frame boss position the bottom fixing hole is actually slotted giving 2mm or so of flexibility.
Priced at £10.99 the Corsa is a decent level bottle cage which thanks to the gloss finish looks more expensive than it really is. The fit on the bottle is good once things have eased and I was that confident in it I even risked sticking a bottle of wine in there for a 5 mile trip back from the shops.
Verdict
A smart looking bit of finishing kit for your GT bike, or any other for that matter.
