Foska are the go-to company if you want a good quality jersey with a distinctive print. Trouble is, they’re also the go-to company if you want a jersey that matches the crrraaay-zee Homer Simpson tie that your kids bought you for Father’s Day. Happily this Beanz top is one of the more restrained designs, and to be fair there are plenty of others, national flags being a big theme along with various beer and food brands, it certainly didn’t make me feel that I was trying to show the world what a jolly fellow I was.
It’s a pretty standard design, with a long zip and three standard rear pockets, although the right hand pocket also has a bonus zipped pocket on the outside, which is handy for valuables. The fabric is Coolmax (one of a myriad different treatments for polyester), which feels silky on the skin and wicks superbly. I’ve been wearing this top to the gym and even with me sweating like a galley slave it hasn’t turned into a soggy rag.
Sizing is generous to say the least. Foska surely know that their target market tends to be middle-aged and slightly, er, portly rather than youthful racing whippets so there’s plenty of stretch. Our test jersey was sized as a medium (38" chest) which had me reaching for an envelope to return it to Road.CC Towers as I’m a 42" and distinctly L. Once I tried it on though it fitted, a little snugly granted, but comfortable nevertheless.
Verdict
Nice jersey and pretty good value for the quality. There’s a slight hint of the wacky-dads, but less so than the some others in the range.

Wacky dad comment’s a bit
Wacky dad comment’s a bit unfair – there’s loads of different prints. If the novelty ones are too much for you, there’s stuff like the (very nice) Lion of Flanders, or country flag jerseys.
(Or the pirate, or the bones).
I’ve accumulated a few, the wackiest being the Marmite one (although I do REALLY like marmite).

Rob does say, that there are plenty of other more restrained designs such as the the flags etc. I’ve got the pirate one – one of my favourite tops (black being so slimming ‘n’ all but I wouldn’t describe that as wacky.
Personally I think the Beanz one is fairly restrained, but taste is a very personal thing and maybe Rob’s just a very restrained sort of chap…
