The Endura Hummvee Lite Icon Glove is a cheap, light summer glove for the budget-conscious rider who doesn’t want the bulk of much padding or protection. It offers minimalist styling and good durability, but also a palm area that wrinkles up a little.

The Icon name refers to Danny MacAskill and the Athertons, who all apparently choose to use this glove. Despite that, the Hummvee range is for the rider on a budget, and priced at £20, these gloves are no exception.

They’re simply designed with a thin, stretchy mesh back, a pull-on cuff and a terry towel sweat wipe section. The minimalist feel extends to the synthetic leather palm, which has no padding – just some silicone printing for extra grip.

The palm is slightly thicker and stiffer than I’d like, and can wrinkle as you grip the bar. It’s not a total deal breaker, but the uber thin and malleable palm of say, the Troy Lee Ace works better – but those are £15 more.

Despite this, the Hummvee Lite Icons are comfy, and though they have rather wide fingers they’re easy to get on and off. The stretchy cuff sits low on the wrist and this, along with the lightweight mesh and laser-cut vents, makes them summer specific.

They’re cool to ride in, breathable and quick to dry, and fairly tough too. Some threads have been pulled from the upper by bramble action, but they haven’t developed any holes.

These gloves are an effective workhorse choice for gravel, mountain or commuter rides, and while the fit could be slightly more refined, the price and value is great.
