With news of Revel’s El Jeffe Grande, Van Rysel’s RCR-XC and teases of pro bikes from Trek and Scott hitting headlines, it really feels like a 32-inch wheel revolution is just around the corner. Adding fuel to the fire is Reserve with its new 30|XC wheelset that’s been fine tuned especially for the demands of bigger wheels.
But fret not, even Reserve claims that the impending 32-inch takeover is coming for the highest level of cross-country racing. But the brand is joining the party with its new 30|XC wheelset that’s now available in the larger wheel size.
However, it’s more than just an upscaled variant. Rather, the rim boasts extra reinforcement and a slightly different profile, especially for the larger diameter, which has been done in a bid to provide a similar level of stiffness and response to the 29-inch wheelset.

As for the details, the 30|XC wheelset features a 30mm internal width, which is said to offer the ‘ideal’ tyre profile, plenty of sidewall support and a big ol’ contact patch. Reserve reckons that tyres two inches to 2.4 inches wide are the best fit for these wheels. There are then 28 spokes on each wheel which, with the new rim profile, help balance radial and lateral stiffness, without adding too much weight.
This wheelset comes sorted with DT Swiss’s 350 hubset, and it can be picked up with an XD, Microspline or HG freehub. Reserve then claims a weight of 1,911g for a taped wheelset, with valves and an XD freehub body.

Then, as expected of Reserve, the wheelset is backed by a lifetime warranty. With it, Reserve promises to replace a broken rim or Fillmore valve for free.
If you’re curious for a little 32-inch action, the Reserve 30|XC wheelset will set you back £1,600.
