White Lightning

White Lightning make a whole bunch of oils and potions to lube your bicycle with, and they now make the Chain Johnny which is a, um, sheath to protect all those bicycle oils from getting onto things that you don't want oil on, or stop it being washed off.

Invented by David Bolch, a former professional team soigneur to the Saturn, US Postal and Discovery Channel cycling teams, the Chain Johnny is a rip-resistant, 2-ply rubber/nylon cover for your road or mountainbike's drivetrain to protect other stuff from oily smears or chainring rips.

Imagine a spray can of degreaser with a chain bath fixed to the nozzle: that's The Trigger Chain Cleaning kit. The degreaser is good. The chain bath is a waste of money.

Call me cynical, but whenever I clap eyes on the marketing blurb for a new chain cleaning product my natural reaction is to think 'Magic chain cleaning fairies in a can? They're having a larf!' One day I'll be wrong. This is not that day.

White Lightning Clean Ride wax lube has as much to offer ’cross bikes and winter hacks as summer playthings. As its name implies, it both lubricates and purges grit and grime from the drivetrain, minimising maintenance and helping prevent premature component wear.

Clean Ride’s formula is broadly similar to other wax lubes. The petroleum distillates and PTFE lubricate outer and inner surfaces of the chain, while the boron nitride improves longevity and inhibits corrosion.
