Limar's £104 Pro 104 Ultralight helmet got a good write-up recently from road.cc's Roger Blessed. This 575 Sport Action will sting you for a much more humble £39.99 but still carries over some of the features of the Pro, such as the in-mould construction and the dial adjust headband. That dial makes it a cinch to secure and the L that I tested was a pretty good fit on my (large, round) melon. At 270g it's reasonably light too.
Fixtures and fittings are pretty much as standard for a 'sport' lid: removable visor, internal padding, bee mesh and an EN 1078 safety rating. It's more of a MTB/general use helmet and the style won't appeal to hardcore roadies. It's the kind of lid that you're more likely to see perched on a commuter, or a parent as they trundle down the canal path with kids in tow. That's not a bad thing, but this isn't a helmet that you'd want to be wearing if you are in the habit of working up a sweat whenever you ride. As the internal profile is very smooth it sits pretty snug against the whole of your head, pressing your hair down into a very effective insulating mat. That makes it pretty warm, despite the numerous vents. As one of natures heavy sweaters I found it quite uncomfortable even on relatively short rides, but you may fare better…
Verdict
Lightweight but very warm. As always with helmets, try before you buy.
