A tweet from his daughter Louise earlier:

For all you asking me about my Dad - broken collar bone & ribs, punctured lung, nasty cut on arm, but still smiling pic.twitter.com/BlabNeyF4D

Great shame to hear this, I agree no-one is immune. Makes me wonder about my father-in-law - 75 and still bashing around Derbyshire on his old steel road bike (full Campag Record, too).

No-one is immune from this violence 2 Get well soon BR.

Brian was featured on ITV's rest day programme:

Giving credit to him and the other British (and Irish) pioneers is long overdue. It's hard to imagine what it was like for them but Tony Hewson's book In Pursuit of Stardom should be on every fan's reading list.

Get well soon Brian, at 83, with several Tour de France under your belt you would have thought that you were over the danger.

The man is a living legend, I hope a full recovery is swift.

Healing vibes - it does say VW Passat in the newspaper story but maybe it was changed since the item was posted here?

The sub editor must've woken up. It said Vauxhall Passat last night. 21
