Kenda’s Crusher is billed as the brand’s fastest gravel tyre, designed with a tightly packed, low-profile tread that promises smooth rolling and efficient speed. Easy to mount and trouble-free once fitted, it makes a strong first impression as a performance-focused option. However, it has shown some deformation.

Kenda Crusher – Technical Details
The Crusher comes in a broad range of versions to suit different riding priorities. There’s a 60 TPI model aimed at adventure and durability, with a full carcass puncture-protection strip, while the racier 120 TPI version uses lighter sidewall protection only to keep weight down and boost suppleness. The 120 TPI is available with either a standard black sidewall or the CSK (Coffee Sidewall) finish, which is purely cosmetic.

All models share a dual-layer rubber compound, with construction differences defining their performance focus. Sizes span 35, 40, 45 and 50mm in 700c (622) and 45 or 50mm in 650b (584), the latter being a rarity these days. My test set, the 700x45mm 120 TPI CSK, is claimed at 543g, with our samples weighing in at 542g and 546g – impressively close to the mark. For reference, there’s virtually no weight penalty between the CSK and black-sidewall versions, with differences of just a few grams across the range.
The tyre I have on test is a pre-production sample, although I’m assured that the rubber compound, casing and general build will remain the same as production tyres. However, expect a change in how the hot patches and logos look.
Kenda Crusher – Performance
Mounting and inflating the Crushers proved very straightforward. On the latest Hunt 25 Carbon Gravel X-Wide wheels, they slipped on without the need for tyre levers when fitted without inserts. With inserts in place, they still went on easily, requiring just a single lever. Inflation with a track pump was simple, and they seated onto the bead with an audible pop.

In the 45mm size, mounted to the Hunt rim with its 27mm internal width, they measured up at 46mm, which is not surprising as 27mm internal width is likely wider than many standard gravel wheelsets used to quote tyre widths for a gravel tyre.
Once inflated, the profile is noticeably round, which not only contributes to a stable and comfortable ride but also plays a big part in how balanced they feel through corners. The extra volume is particularly evident when running lower pressures, offering good support without feeling vague. The 120 TPI CSK version also benefits from a puncture-protection layer in the sidewalls, adding a touch more reassurance against cuts.
The tread pattern follows a proven formula for speed-focused gravel tyres. A solid centre strip ensures smooth rolling, flanked by tightly packed, low-profile blocks that gradually give way to more open, arrow-shaped blocks at the shoulders, transitioning to cornering traction. The design strikes a smart balance between efficiency on hardpack and dependable grip when leaned over.
The Crusher delivers an impressive ride quality, with just enough feedback while avoiding harshness. It feels composed and supportive when loaded into faster or tighter corners, helped by that rounded profile. Rolling is quiet and efficient, and grip is consistent across the board.
Cornering traction is stronger than the low tread depth might suggest, breaking away gradually rather than suddenly when pushed. On climbs and under braking, it dug in well, and while mud clearance is poor, this isn’t a tyre designed for mud or soft tracks, but it still held on better than expected, and for the occasional muddy patch, it was fine.

Kenda describes the Crusher as the fastest gravel tyre in its line-up, and it’s easy to see why. While direct comparisons against other brands are less clear-cut, the performance exceeded expectations. I’d happily keep them on for a race or long event without hesitation.
At around 545g for a 45mm tyre, the Crusher sits at a very competitive weight, rivalling leading dry-weather options such as the Schwalbe G-One RS, which in the same width came in at 525g on test.
While nothing was noticeable once the tyres were fitted, the fold lines in the casing appear to have worn or stretched during use. This only became evident after removing the tyres, and it’s unclear whether there is any structural impact on the carcass or if it’s purely a cosmetic issue.
Kenda Crusher – Verdict
At £55 each for the 120 TPI version in either sidewall colour, the Crusher sits very competitively against other race-focused tyres. For pure speed, it may not quite match the very fastest options, but it’s proven impressively reliable while still delivering a lively ride. On certain surfaces, that reliability could well make them the smarter choice.
By comparison, some leading alternatives come at a steeper price. The Schwalbe G-One RS is a benchmark performer at £75, while the Continental Terra Speed retails for around £70. Vittoria offers stronger value, with the full Terreno range also priced at £55 and in widths up to 55mm.
Overall, the Crusher has been dependable and faultless within the conditions it’s designed for. While lab tests might show it falls short of the very fastest tyres in outright speed, its balance of pace, grip and durability makes it an excellent option for dry to mixed tracks where you don’t want to worry about the odd patch of mud.
