Virtually impossible to stop repeat offenders

Banned from driving on numerous previous occassions. Convicted of driving whilst banned, without insurance and with positive drug and alcohol tests at the crash scene.

= suspended sentence and another (previous bans having proven ineffectual) temporary driving ban.

No wonder that rogue drivers have little fear from the courts system, especially if money is no object.

    Sometimes the system does

Sometimes the system does seem like a game of logic – extrapolated. “In mitigation, my client can’t manage her affairs in an adult way, was coked off her tits at the time and doesn’t have any regard for the courts…”. Bit like the “In mitigation, my client honestly did not see the cyclist”.

    I’ve no problem with her

I’ve no problem with her going to jail. I just doubt she’d be less of a nightmare “complicated lady” when she got out. Which wouldn’t be long. Then we’re back where we started.

So not really disagreeing. If she was imprisoned (wouldn’t be inside for too long) maybe that would make a difference. If she’s nicked driving presumably that’s a breach of conditions and she’s off to jail. If someone isn’t convinced that it’s hardship in some way, again.

    If…

so the judge, noting that Price thinks herself above the law, confirms her in that opinion by sentencing her to a driving ban for flouting the same – how is that not making an ass of the law?

Price herself showed the contempt in which she holds a driving ban when she admitted that she should not have been driving – not because she was banned from driving, but only because she was drugged-up. The driving ban does not seem to have been a reason itself not to drive, at least for her.

    It would keep a serial
It would keep a serial offender with complete disregard for other people off the roads.
Or do we wait until she kills someone ?

Maybe it was argued that prison wouldn’t help with the drugs? Also she’d be out soon enough. There must be some kind of intervention (tagging? Court-mandated rehab – assuming available…) that would keep her out of cars and away from dealers.

Transportation’s starting to seem an idea here. Celebrity “lag island” where there are no vehicles and drugs? Rum?

Although it wouldn’t be kind to the locals.

Ok, I know they might have

Ok, I know they might have been choice comments taken out of context, but what sort of defence mitigation is
“It’s a complicated driving history. Things tend to be quite complicated with this lady.

“She does not deal with her problems, particularly with paperwork.”

That bodes well with turning up at all the court appointed work and rehabilitation so hopefully the next news will be the suspended sentence actually being activated and her being in Jail. Although I’m sure she will just use the experience for her next book, interviews, TV show attempts.

She apparently also owes several thousand to the courts still from all her previous offences (I suspect not just driving).

Perhaps they felt it would be

Perhaps they felt it would be unfair on the other inmates if they jailed her?
