Saddles better for men ‘down there’?

I bought a new saddle recently, one with a cut out used mainly for time trialling, to fit to my commuting bike because I was starting to have some discomfort in the area where I sit. Without going into too much detail, I have noticed much better blood flow in my private parts since. Has anyone else noticed this?

I really am an advocate for leather saddles. Initially expensive maybe, they do have a break in period but are then comfortable and last literally for decades, so are worth every penny in my view.

You need to get a good one though, so sadly no Brooks any longer, but Berthoud and Idéale are more than worthy replacements.

However you do need to protect them from getting soaked, so a bike with mudguards is a given.

In Scotland they put you on probation for that.

The one to ask there is @RighttoBikeIt on twitter, who has his excessive equipment dominating every cycling video.

Yes! I think a lot of men ‘of a certain age’ have this issue too. I have tried all sorts of saddles but find Specialized the best. I think the key is to get your seat bones measured. Any decent bike shop should have a memory foam pad which you sit on and it measures your hip displacement. I ride a Toupé Comp Gel on both my road bike and my MTB in a 155mm width. The annoying thing is the cutout which can mean spray comes up through the saddle when really wet. Apart from that, I think this is the best saddle I have found.

I prefer to say I ride both ways. Although I’ve no idea where that leaves The Goodies.

Been using a saddle with a cutout for over a decade. It’s more or less standard now. It definitely made a difference, no numbness on long rides. I can confirm that cycling has had no impact on my full functionality, in multiple techniques, a broad variety of pleasuring.

That’s a shame, just when the extra blood flow would come in handy as well!
