Air Compressors – New to Tubeless

    Hi,

I’m new to the forum so hello everyone.

I recently built up a disc-brake road bike onto the Zipp 303S wheels (hookless and tubeless) and am now looking to get myself a compressor setup.

I’ve previously only used clinchers and have some more recent experience with tubulars, but tubeless is still new to me. I tried to swap a tubeless tire with an ~2010 Lezyne track pump but didn’t have any luck getting going to ended up taking my wheels to my LBS to inflated.

I was thinking of getting a Park Tool shop inflator but understand this requires a separate air compressor (i.e. is only the head unit). Does anyone have any suggestions? I usually buy Makita tools for anything hardware related but they seem to be over a grand so probably not what I’m looking for in this instance.

    Tha is in advance,

Buy a chep CO2 inflator from ebay, one cylinder will fit a tyre every time.  If you are worried about the CO2 affecting the sealant, once the tyre is inflated and seated, let it down and pump it back up with a track pump.  Work out how much a CO2 cylinder costs, multiply that by the number of times you are going to use your compressor to sea t a tyre and see which works out the cheapest, it wont be the compressor (and when you decide to go back to using tubes you wont have an expensive compressor sitting idle).

    Getting a compressor feels
Getting a compressor feels like massive overkill, unless you think you’ll have use for it in addition to pumping up tubeless tyres.

The Airshot canister is £50 and works as a bolt on / intermediary step between your pump and your valve. Alternatively you could make your own with a 2l Coke bottle (other fizzy drinks also work), a spare valve, some 6mm rubber tubing, epoxy resin, and a bulldog clip.

Hi there. I’m assuming the Lezyne track pump you used isn’t one of their ‘overdrive’ tubeless set-up pumps, and is just a standard track pump. Have you considered getting one of this style of tubeless set-up floor pumps? I’m sure it would be much cheaper than a compressor. I got a Lifeline airblast tubeless track pump for fitting my road and cyclocross tubeless tyres, it was about £70 and works a treat.
