Race/Rider of the year

    I'm already starting to get fantasy cycling withdrawl symptoms, but at least it's under 100 days until the start of the 2014 season.

    Anyway, looking back at 2013, what/who were your race and riders of the season.  This can be in fantasy terms or otherwise.

    I'll go first, my rider of the season is Fabian Cancellara.  He came back from the shocking 2012 to totally dominate the 2013 classics beating Sagan and the rest by a considerable distance.

    Race-wise I'm not sure, I enjoyed the early season stage races, particularly Paris-Nice and the Volta ao Algarve because they were short and unpredictable, but felt a little let down by the grand tours.  The dominance of Nibali/Froome in the Giro/Tour took all of the enjoyment out of the GC battle and I never really got into the Vuelta.

    Favourite moment, Tony Martin’s 7th place finish. Race, Flanders for Cancellara’s attack to leave Sagan gasping. Also enjoyed ToB in the lakes, climbing up that river bed, I mean Honister.

    It is probably a stretch to say rider of the season, but my favorite rider has been Zdeněk Štybar, partially for Paris-Roubaix, but also for making the Eneco tour worth watching.

    Race is a toss up between the Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo. Even though it was shortened, it was still a good race.

    My single favorite moment was Pozzato coming second in Roma Maxima.

    Race of the year – I loved
    Race of the year – I loved watching Paris-Roubaix this year; grand tour wise, honestly I’d probably say the TdF, just followed it the closest and it is The Tour, after all.

    Rider, for Fantasy you’ve got to love Sagan for sheer reliability of getting points. It’s a rare race in which he doesn’t score. But I’ve loved seeing the real emergence of both Carlos Betancur and Nairo Quintana.

    Race was probably the Giro
    Race was probably the Giro for those epic snowy mountain stages.

    Rider for me was Kittel. Brilliant at Le Tour.

    Can we add team of the year?

    For me Argos for how they handled Kittel and out-sprint trained Quickstep.
