Your fantasy season in a nutshell…

So as mentioned elsewhere, I’m very happy to have achieved the goal I set myself at the outset: finish in the top 100 overall at the end of the season. I also got at least one of all the badges.

Despite that, I actually only did really well in three races (TDU, Tour Mediteraneen – my only top ten – and Romandie). Grand Tour-wise, I was reasonably happy with 350th at the Tour, slightly less happy with 400th at the Giro, and laughably far from the top in the Vuelta (though in my defence my new son had just been born).

Next year I’ll be looking to better my position in the overall, crack the non-premium top 100, improve my grand tour scores (especially in Spain) and get at least a couple of top ten competition finishes. Oh, and maintain my pretty decent record in the only competition that really matters – the ‘pick three riders’.

But what about you lot? How would you encapsulate your season?

    First year, purist only, top
First year, purist only, top 50, non premium, happy. Good at classics, bad at lesser known tours. Spent far too long improving my knowledge of the pro peloton!

My year has been pretty up
My year has been pretty up and down, I did really well in the week long stage races finishing 7th in the Volta Algarve, Paris-Nice and Volta a Catalunya, 8th in the Tour of Poland and 9th in the Tour de Romandie. On the other hand I was crap in the classics again and was disappointed with my Grand Tour performances. I’d aimed to better 23rd in the 2012 Giro and break into the top 20 of a major stage race but my best was 107th in the Giro after a disaster of a final week.

Purist wise I got a couple of top tens in the week long races again and 22nd in the Tour but was hoping for more after I came second in last years purist Vuelta by a tiny margin (that still hurts 🙁 ).

All in all I’m pretty happy but was hoping for better in the big races. My aim for next year is to improve in the classics (top 100) and to get top 20 in a grand tour (probably the Giro).
