Stage 1 of this eagerly anticipated Vuelta is nearly upon us!

GC could be wide open, There’s lots of decent climbers, so teams should be quite varied!

So everyone is going to be very hush hush about their picks!

If anyone isn’t, please feel free to share your wisdom!

I see teams going flat out
I see teams going flat out for the TTT win if they have a big GC guy, I know a couple of teams who have eyed taking the red jersey from start to finish.

I have no idea how to call
I have no idea how to call the TTT, so have basically picked tomorrow’s team today (plus a couple of OPQSs).

So many contenders in this competition – not just for GC but for stage wins too – loads of riders putting themselves in the shop window, plus at least two genuinely competetive pro-conti teams in Caja Rural and Netapp Endura. Bit of a shame there aren’t one or two more genuine sprinters’ stages but otherwise looks to be a cracking grand tour in prospect.

And it starts on a boat.

    Scarponi would be my podium
Scarponi would be my podium outsider.

I can’t believe how cheap Zubeldia and LuLu are though!!

    As I’ve said elsewhere, I
As I’ve said elsewhere, I think Betancur will be very strong. Ditto Henao if the Sky machine clicks properly around him.

Nibali is the big question mark. There’s no doubt he’d love to take the worlds where the course suits him and it’s on his home turf. But he MUST be looking at this course and the competition and thinking… “why the ruddy heck not?”

Anyone got any outside shouts for the podium? Rafal Majka?

The men in Orange have to be
The men in Orange have to be going full belt like STEVESPRO said.

It might be to soon after the Tour for Valverde and JRod, at least in the first week but will they be to far behind by then ?

Nibs is the main man IMHO.

Stage 1 looks like it will be
Stage 1 looks like it will be for the heavy GC hitters + OPQS. Garmin’s usually got a strong TTT but their squad doens’t look time trial oriented at the Vuelta.

This to me looks like its
This to me looks like its going to be the most open GC battle of the year….Easy to make a case for a dozen or so riders….Terrain looks like it could be a classic Vuelta and the guys in Orange will be using this as an advert for their talents, to get team slots for next year…Should be a little animated to say the least…Bring it on… đŸ™‚
