The Giro Purist thread

    I figured the purist comp deserved a separate thread so we can keep purist discussions separate from the main stage threads.

    My Purist team is climber biased:

    Wiggins
    Nibali
    Scarponi
    Santambrogio
    Betancur
    Majka
    Pantano
    Locatelli
    Gavazzi

    Gavazzi is my only 'sprinter' but I've effectively got 5 team leaders and Betancur who I think will be stronger than Pozzovivo, at least to start with.

    Majka and Betancur are in there for young rider points as is Locatelli although he and Pantano are my breakaway guys.  Gavazzi, I hope, can feature in a few flat stages but I shied away from Bouhanni or Cav as just don't see their being enough stages for them to make them worth picking over the likes of Santambrogio or Scarponi.

    The other thing with Sanchez is that IF he gets his much desired stage win it’s quite likely he’ll crest a few KOM’s on the way and he could easily have a blockbuster ‘Voeckler’ type stage.

    Either way he’ll either be in contention on GC picking up regular points or if he falls behind he could easily pull off a ‘spetacollo’…..for cheaper than Nizzolo or Kiserlovski(did-dig arsene 😉 )

    I 100% don’t see Cav winning the points jersey. For Cav to win the jersey he needs to win every point he can on flat stages and at intermediate sprints and he needs for the climbers to all be taking points from each other in the hills, I don’t see both happening.

    Also, even 5 stage wins wouldn’t probably score as many fantasy points as Nibali who’s priced about the same.

    I considered both Weening and Sanchez, Weening in particular as his team has no real mountain leader so he should be free to do as he pleases, but both I’m not sure if he can sustain his form from a month or so ago, he was already starting to fall off in the Ardennes. Sanchez though was a tough one, he’s been in poor form and his stated ambitions are very low (just wants a stage win) so I’m not sure he sees himself as an actual contender but he’s cheap for a guy who could realistically podium.
