    what happened was that we moved the game over to a new server. two servers in fact: one for the game and one for the database.

    that all worked fine but for some reason the RAID controller sorting all the data onto the four discs in the server went haywire and screwed it all up in a way that wasn’t recoverable. that’s unusual to the point where the tech guy said he’d never seen it before, lucky old us.

    the new server’s a stopgap ahead of us running two front end servers, load balanced and failed over so that if one breaks the other will still work. that should be up and running next week. typically this failure would have gone unnoticed if it had just waited a few days…

    anyway, that’s all for now. i’m writing this from a car park somewhere outside newtown in mid wales where i’ve been sat for the last 2hrs trying to sort it all out. time for wine i think.

    It’s the ToC, not the Giro, there’s no major prizes, it’s just for fun. I made my transfers this morning, I couldn’t care less. I’d rather everyone have it fair and be able to make their transfers.

    Always impressed with people
    Always impressed with people who can break servers in new and interesting ways B-)

    Transfers done but I felt under pressure – just have to hope I’ve done OK :/
