Is there a need for road.cc to repeat, perpetuate and revel in the anti-cycling agenda?
In pretty much every update – there’s the reporting of nonsense spouted by some anti-cycling nutter or media article. The source is usually ill informed bollocks…
We are ‘treated’ every day to the near miss of the day…which, for anyone landing on the road.cc front page – just perpetuates the inaccurate message that cycling is dangerous.
Surely all this negativity is incorrectly aimed at the converted? Bombard the petrol head sites or tabloids with it and maybe it might register with at least one white van man, old codger or boy racer.
How about a courteous motorists of the day… What about reporting all the positive cycling initiatives going on…
…anyway back to the happy pills…

    All special-interest websites

All special-interest websites do it to some extent. You should see some of the motorsport websites I visit. Fast cars will be banned, racing will be banned, club racing isn’t as friendly as it used to be, BTCC/F1/whatever isn’t as good as it used to be etc.Whatever generates clicks and comments is what gets published. You just have to hope that the non-clickbait is of sufficient quality to put up with the clickbait. Which on road.cc, it generally is.

It’s so  we can reply to them

It’s so  we can reply to them with wit, finely crafted arguements, spittle fueled rants and squirrely pictures.  We all know how bad it is out there.  We are a community, it’s why I’m here.  I’m a mountainbiker, aero, drop bars and skinny tyres are not my thing, but I get around on the roads, commuter and utility cyclist, never driven so aparently a “Golden” cyclist.   I recently signed up to singletrack, great website, and I’ve been reading it longer than this one, but it was to read some of the articles that were part hidden.  I just don’t feel part of that particular community.  I will talk to any cyclist when out, I love the whole bicycle thing.

    I love you guys.

Got a lot of love for road.cc
Got a lot of love for road.cc but yeah, in real life I only very rarely get the sort of shit reported daily on here, and I’ve a 40 mile daily commute into and out of London…this and social media in general do give a false impression of what the roads and motorists are really like.

News does need to be reported however, just needs a better balance maybe?

It does feel a bit that way

It does feel a bit that way doesn’t it? Like a constant barrage of scary s***t that either fuels the “us vs them” debate or else just plain puts people off cycling on fear of death.

On the positive side, I think there is sometimes educational value in the “near miss of the day” because it provides some insight into what goes on. I realise that usually it’s just some idiotic driving, but given that we have no direct control over what others do the best we can do to protect ourselves is have an awareness of what situations and scenarios occur, and how quickly they can go bad.
