Does my idea of a perfect commuter jacket exist?

Ok so, I really didn’t think I was asking for too much with the following specification:

    – Not bright fucking yellow. I’m sick of walking round looking like a building contractor.
    – Plenty of reflectivity.
    – Reasonably form fitted. I’m not talking racing tight, but not some billowy number that’s one step up from just wearing a poncho
    – WATERPROOF. Not water resistant. Breathable is a bonus but fully waterproof is an absolute must.
    – Chest pocket. A must for me.

PROVIZ seems like they would tick all of the above boxes except the fit- why are they so ridiculously bad fitting?

Any other suggestions? I had a Madison something or other which was pretty good, but quite baggy on me (5’7″, 75kgs, 40″ chest 32″ waist) and bright yellow. I really didn’t think I was asking for too much but maybe I am.

Can anyone advise on something that would fit my criteria?

    Thanks!

    My Gabbas rain repellency

My Gabbas rain repellency couldnt handle a summer downpour.  I’d not advise it for winter. Dreadful top and I was really keen on it before I wore it.

    Gabba long sleeve  (or

Gabba long sleeve  (or Perfetto as I belive Castelli calls it now).

Nice and fitted, warm as toast with the right base layers, breathable, rain repellent and available delivered to your door in an array of colours.

You’ll get wet with sweat every time you ride in a fully waterproof jacket; they’re like wearing a bin bag.  Go for something that’ll withstand a shower and keep the wind out.

Pro Viz are not breathable at

Pro Viz are not breathable at all – I’d rule the jacket out – but maybe the gilet over a jacket that fulfils all your criteria bar the reflectivity ?

    I think your fully waterproof

I think your fully waterproof requirement is the crux, as it nobbles a couple of others.

Full waterproofing has generally meant poor breathability (whenever I’ve read reviews of jackets that claim proper waterproofing AND breathability they’ve been unconvinced, so I’ve remained skeptical).

If your jacket isn’t breathable, you don’t want a tight fit, because it’d be like wearing a plastic bag.

So… if I wanted a jacket to be fully waterproof I’d be resigned to getting one that’s a bit baggy.

If you just want reasonable water resistance, there are decent options that tick your other boxes.
