A few years ago, in a different life when I lived alone and all I did was work and ride, I developed an extreme weight-weeny fascination with my bike and my body. Getting my titanium bike down to 6.8kg was easy enough – but it cost money.
I was intrigued to see how light I could get myself whilst remaining bike-fit and riding well. At the beginning of this period I had peaked at 85kg. I’m 175cm. I was porky. Over the period of a year I slipped down to 75kg, still riding well but still carrying a couple of unnecessary kilos.
Throughout I ate super healthily, if through much reduced portions.
From 73 and under, I began to look ‘undernourished’, my fingers got boney, and it began to be difficult to sit on unpadded chairs for long.
Ultimately I got down to 68kg. I looked positively ill, but have never felt healthier nor ridden stronger. It just wasn’t a good weight to live in the real world.
What’s your lowest?
