Thankfully no injuries, surprisingly.
As there were aparently occupants, presumably the other car was waiting rather than parked, contrary to the BBC report.

whenever I cheat on my partner I wire a couple of orange lights to my bollocks. Last time she come in in the middle, sees ’em flashin’, I says to her, “all right, love, just parking here for a coupla minutes while I unload. I’ll be done in a jiffy”. No probs.

It’s still not ok to stop, or even drive in, a cycle lane. It’s not likely the car broke down while filtering past another vehicle.

When my other halfs cars gearbox decided it was no longer going to function as a gearbox, we had to pull over on a dual carriageway with no hard shoulder and we stuck the hazard lights on. I was just proposing a genuine situation in which the parked car might not have been at fault, rather jumping to conclusions.
As cyclists, we (quite justifiably) get annoyed when some people (the Dail Mail) jump to conclusions about cyclists involved in incidents. We should not do the same about motorists.
The twit driving that Audi however…

It could actually be that the car did indeed break down and this was possibly the best course of action at the time. Then again, you don’t drive so won’t ever have that problem.
I do, though, see motorists park in ridiculous places (e.g. across a pedestrian crossing or in the middle of a residential road) and put their hazard lights on, as a matter of course. So I’m going on the balance or probablities. If those lights are supposed to actually mean something then motorists need to stop misusing them (and the authorities do something about such misuse), otherwise I’m going to assume they have no particular meaning.
A couple of friends’ of mine have been given 3 points and a fine for stopping in places they shouldn’t so I don’t.
Though in some areas stopping randomly where you like and when you like is what you do. I ‘ve seem some interesting arguments over this between drivers.

(Could they have broken down? Maybe. But the hazard lights have no bearing on how likely that is)

If your car breaks down you are told to get everyone out to a safe place, and try if possible not to leave the car in a place where another vehicle could hit it. (I actually learnt that as a young kid.)
The R8 driver clearly didn’t realise the car was as powerful as it was while the Nissan* driver was an idiot. Double yellows are there for a reason and if your car breaks down then get the occupants out asap.
