Super base layers

Recently I noticed this on there the good old Bob Shop

    http://www.bobshop.com/en/Brands/Castelli/Men-s/Cycling-Underwear/Base-Layers/CASTELLI-Prosecco-Wind-Long-Sleeve-Base-Layer-black.html?cur=1&force_sid=926ik86la5k2elb4fium927m21

So far it hasn’t been the coldest, a few cold snaps mixed in with some a few milder days. If it is 9+ I still have the pins out and lighter jackets. But there is still plenty of winter left. I have lots of Nike Pro tops and other jerseys to layer up with, but this Castelli looks so ‘tech.’ I know Castelli isn’t cheap, but it never fails to be quality. (Not money for nothing like some brands *cough*) I’m just scared if it is too good it might make more of my kit redundent and start another round of upgrades.

Does anyone else have or use an ultra modern base layer, or do you just bundle up? Any reviews or recommendations?

And whilst we are at it, you know those Castelli stringy vest things, how can they keep you cool when it is an extra layer? Well if it works for Thomas Voeckler…

Presumably by wicking away at least some of the perspiration on to the mesh and allowing it to evaporate faster from the enlarged surface area. Since it’s a string vest, it’s not really a layer at all – most of a string vest is holes…
