Claris Upgrade

    If you had the choice of paying £100 extra to upgrade the groupset to Sora from Claris is it worthwhile or are they reasonably similar?

    Not that bothered that Sora is 9 speed compared to 8 on the Claris more interested in as smooth a change as possible & reliability in the good old British weather.

    For what it’s worth I’ve had
    For what it’s worth I’ve had 8 speed 2300 (with thumbshifters) on my road bike for about 3 years of year round commuting and general riding – about 5000 miles.
    Incredibly reliable. Recently changed chain and sprockets, and have never even had to adjust the cables.

    Might be worth spending the £100 on nice shorts or upgrading wheels or tyres?

    Interesting…….what I’ve read online seems to indicate not much difference!

    I can afford the extra but would obviously rather keep my cash in pocket if it isn’t worth it.

    I have Sora on a bike…
    I have Sora on a bike… Works just as well as the 105 5800 I have on another bike… Smooth, precise shifting and no issues with it so far.

    If you can afford to, I’d say do it… A Sora Lever set will cost you nearly £100 if you decide to do so afterwards!
