Who is unwrapping their pins this weekend?

With temperatures predicted to be in double digits (disclaimer: for a couple of hours, in some parts of the country) who will be leaving the tights and warmers behind? In the vain hope that Spring might spring and stay sprung. Will all the winter miles straining against black roubaix pay off? Will you bound over the Dales like a lamb? Please wax lyrical…

Doing my local 25 miler in about an hour and might give the shorts a try. I’ve been wearing them all winter but I hate long cycling ‘shorts’.

Had a quick spin out earlier
Had a quick spin out earlier on today in shorts (tights were in the wash so little choice anyway). I was warm enough but I also wore a hoodie and my warm gloves. A bit of a funny combo I’ll grant you but it was a utilitarian trip rather than a ‘proper’ ride.

Up here in Norwich it’s Summer Jersey, Arm Warmers & Three Quarters weather and very nice it is too.

As far as getting my legs out goes I normally wait for that Saturday in a couple of weeks when I don’t check the forecast and find out that winter is giving it one last fling.

    I wear three-quarter shorts
    I wear three-quarter shorts when riding (commuting, I’m afraid, on a hybrid with panniers: I’m not some shaven-legged roadie… 😉 ).

I’ve only worn tights under them maybe a week around Xmas.

Bare calves the rest of the time (although I did wear thicker socks for a while…).

Had fun on my fixie around Birmingham the other night whilst wearing baggies – definitely warm enough to get your legs out!

    I usually follow the maxim:
I usually follow the maxim: “Cover your knees below 15 degrees”.

The forecast temperature for Saturday afternoon’s race isn’t far off that so I am likely to ride go bare-legged for the first time since early October.

    Nope, staying covered. During the morning where i am it will peak about 10 degrees. I work on the following parameters in order to help me decide what to grab from the kit drawer;

    0-5 degrees, thermal longs
    5-10, leg warmers
    10-15, knee warmers
    15+ shorts

add 5 to each of those and i’ll agree.

    Would have been warm enough
Would have been warm enough on the ride home from work yesterday for shorts.
Only been able to ditch the winter gear the last couple of days here on Tyneside.

Mind you most other people on bikes I pass still seem to be wearing full face balaclavas like it’s -10 below. Either that or there’s a lot of neer do wells on my commute

Took my gloves off last weekend. a lovely moment. I will be sad to say goodbye to my Castelli thermosuit this weekend (best cycling clothes I’ve ever bought) but I think the weather has turned. Can I take of my mudguard?

I was having the same thought this morning. I tend to run fairly cold, so I think I might stick with the leggings/Gabba at least this week.
