Bib Tights Recommendations – Mid Range

I had managed, a few years back, to snaffle up some Campag bib tights, which have served me well but this will be their last winter.

As I’m inclined to buy out of season when things appear cheaper can anyone recommend bib tights, with a pad, for rides up to about 6hrs for less than £100?

    Thanks in advance.

I’d say go for leg warmers
I’d say go for leg warmers and bib shorts combo. You can get much more flexibility this way.

Perhaps you’d have been better off with Aldi’s version last year 😉 – an ‘interesting’fit in my case, but a lad in my club bought a pair and was happy with ’em, looked a reasonable fit.

You got me wondering – just checked mine (I think Oxygen and the slightly lighter weight mtb equiv of 3-4yrs ago) and there’s a decent-sized roubaix panel behind the knee – that probably helps a fair bit – plus there’s a slight knee bend to the way theyre cut (as you’d probably expect).

I beg to differ – I’d say there’s a big fat ‘it depends’.
I ride a recumbent, and find my knees get far more windchill than on an upright The Gore bibtights I have – two varieties – both fit quite well. Yeah, there’s not as much give as you’d get from straight roubaix, but it’s enough.

OTOH, I’ve got some Gore knee warmers, and they feel quite restrictive in the quads – BUT that’s probably ‘cos they’re the next size up and I wear them higher, otherwise it’d feel like the circulation in my (not so skinny) calves was being cut off.

On an upright in subzero conditions or warmer conditions on the ‘bent, Lusso roubaix seems to work well AFAIC, is inexpensive, and made in the UK.

I have a few pairs of “Funkier” bib shorts… they are quite a big brand in the US but never seemed to have made any real noise over here. Available from all online retailers (except Wiggle!)

The summer ones served me well throughout last year so I purchased some 3/4 thermal bib knickers for this winter… nearly 1500 winter miles they have been spot on…Even in rides for over 4 hours in 1 or 2 degrees…

Just ordered a pair of summer bib knickers for the spring an at a touch over £40… Theres no complaining!

    castelli sorpasso bib tights
castelli sorpasso bib tights currently on sale for £90 on Merlin.

I have a pair and would say they are good down to just below 5 degrees. when the temperature gets to 0 I feel more comfortable in the sorpasso windstoppers which are a little warmer.

    Ride AquaZero bibtights.
Ride AquaZero bibtights. They are only about £60, from the RideBosh website.

I bought a pair just after Christmas, the pad is firm and comfortable, they are warm enough for cycling down to just below freezing, in my view. The water-repellent finish seems to work, but I couldn’t comment on durability yet. The longest I have ridden in them is ~30 miles, and they feel like they’d be fine for at least twice that.

When you follow the size guide you might find them a wee bit tight, but they have a good degree of stretch, and hold in place well, so I don’t see this as a problem.
