Right, my team is picked, transfers planned for stages 2,3,4 and 5 already. (Ho ho ho)

Have left out some big names so a little bit of a gamble for stages 1 and 2.

And no, I’m not posting my team yet.

Coquard caused the crash ultimately, Cavendish and Gerrans had untangled, then Coquard hit Gerrans, who’s wheel crossed in front of Cav, then both down.
Cavendish was leaning into Gerrans to start with, but Gerrans was riding with his elbows right out, and it was so spread out peeling off riders were not able to clear.

But I blaim Cancellara in fact, because his jump of the nose, which was never going to succeed in a month of Monday’s caused chaos in the sprint teams.

I hope both are ok tho'

Might as well blame Cofidis too then, for taking off then shitting themselves on hill and upsetting trains on right side (LTB/Giant) ?

You sir are turning into a blinkered tool ….

As a true cycling fan you should be more concerned about how the riders are rather than sticking the blame anywhere …..it’s a pro Sprint there will be nudging, elbows ,heads going in all over the place but obviously because an Aussie was involved it had to be someone else’s fault #o

Errrrr … what? How is this of any value? Their positions weren’t reversed and we aren’t ever going to be able to rerun that sprint such that they might be.

The problem is Cav has “form”, inasmuch as he has been involved in (more than) his fair share of spectacular finish line smash ups. This may be correlation (until Kittel turned up he was the best sprinter of his generation; if there was a crash in a sprint finish, Cav was likely to be somewhere nearby because it was a sprint and because a whole lot of his competitors shape their sprint around him) or it could be causation (he is overly aggressive), who knows. But it means people are more willing to express a view on the subject than might otherwise be the case. No one has expressed a view that Gerrans is a dangerous sprinter (I don’t think he is), probably because he only turns up in the sprint in a particular kind of finish.

I blame Gerrans, it’s CLEARLY his fault because he’s Australian. Aussies all have CHIPS on their SHOULDERS because they’re DESCENDED FROM CRIMINALS. If he’d been properly British he’d have better manners in a sprint and know when to get out of the way of faster sprinters. I mean WHAT was an old man like that doing TRYING to CONTEST a sprint in a major race like the TOUR DE FRANCE.

Actually that’s bordering on racist and derogative. How ever you tried to disguise it. hah joking

U right hate is a bad word as I am stinging atm, you don’t even know me I am a huge supporter and only ever DISLIKED 2 riders, Rui Costa and Cav.

    A cycling Journo Opinon below.

More on that Cavendish v Gerrans stramesh

The pair seemed to be having quite a frank exchange of views and shoulders as they jockeyed for position on the run-in. On Twitter, it’s been suggested there may even have been a headbutt or two, but I’ll need to see it again before giving a definitive verdict.

    5.01pm BST

    Hmmm …

I’ve just seen the head-on of that crash and it certainly seemed that Cavendish got a little up close and personal with Gerrans, but he certainly didn’t headbutt him. A push into Gerrans’ shoulder with his head/helmet? Certainly. A headbutt? Emphatically not. Away from the crash, it briefly looked as if Fabian Cancellara might nick the stage, when he made his move with 1,200 metres to go, but in the end it was Kittel who prevailed by about a bike-length from Peter Sagan. Cancellara finished 12th in the end, while defending champion Chris Froome was sixth, no less.

    OH WAIT
Wasn’t this exactly what Browny was kicked off tour for?

In a situation like this that could so easily mean the end of a riders race throwing accusations and blame around is pointless, especially when it is so coloured by nationality. It’s clear VVV73 that whenever Aussies are involved you lose the ability to be reasoned, if Cav and Gerrans’ positions were reversed you would have still come to the same conclusions and be calling for Cav to be booted from the race for it.

If nothing else if Cav is out then it is very sad for the race. Cav, in Britain, would have been a huge pull, especially for Monday, and actually seeing a fit Cav vs Kittel and Griepel would have been great, now we’ll have to wait another year for a chance at a proper sprint showdown.

Whatever dude, you don’t hear Gerrans whinging every week about other riders then come out and do that! And I was actually more concerned about all the other riders tours ruined on FIRST DAY , cause he thinks he is god. I was shattered gerrans went down as I thought he could win tomorrow. anyway none you will see him at fault regardless so its all good . Have fun burying your heads

Nope. I am saying Cav puts his blinker on and then rides like he expects everyone to get out of his way. (All sprinters do this.) Gerrans either didn’t want to or couldn’t.

Cav does every time he gets beat!
I am not anti British at all, I am ANTI -CAV always have been always will be, Greipel is the nicest sprinter there. ( he cry’s every time he loses its never his fault gets up his tema mates) ( yet his best days were when he ALWAYS had ANZAC lead outs, renshaw, hendeson)
