Stumps
Quite and interesting stage today with a 26k ITT up what can only be described as a bloody steep hill.
With points reaching 14% i dont think the usual TT specialists will be out in force and i dont think we will even see a TT bike.
Made no changes to my team and keeping faith in what i have with 4 transfers for tomorrow should i need to change anything.

ZoidlShould be a full house to be honest and a chance of 200pts and skinsuit which would leave the seemingly unattainable top row of badges(unless I can fluke a stage top 10-unlikely without Pozzo or Pelli)
221 pts and only joint 191st on the stage…….tough crowd!!
Still….3 badges in a day so I’ll only miss out on the top row.
Even Zoidl in for Romero had the shine taken off it when Jeffrey took the Lanterne Rouge points making it a loss of 2pts!!

But you just have to make the decisions further down the GC. I had to choose between Rolland and Hesjedal. I couldn’t quite afford Pozzo and I didn’t fancy Kelderman. I chose Hesjedal and he was going fine till his mechanical then he collapsed, but that’s how it goes. My team is more for tomorrow than today so it could have been worse. As Dave says it doesn’t really matter what the budget is. The best players, with a bit of luck, will rise to the top regardless and yesterday there were some big differences in the scores. ITTs usually have a small range. It’s the break stages that make or break you in this game.

Curiously enough, I would’ve won the Bookends badge three times this Giro! Apparently poor old Kenny Dehaes didn’t make the time cut (which seems a bit harsh to me) so Romero was ‘officially’ last man home.Without wishing to be provocative, I do feel that these latter stages have suffered a little because of the jumbo budgets. There will be few active players who don’t have four of the top five finishers today, and indeed the top five on GC. OK, everyone will have Quintana and Aru, but I’ve got Uran, Rolland, Majka and Pozzovivo in my team as well. A budget of 160 or even 170 would mean having to take tougher decisions and also greater variety in the teams.
I shouldn’t really complain seeing as this has been my best grand tour performance by miles, but that’s a small lesson to be taken into account for the Tour, perhaps – though on the other hand I imagine the rider values will be higher on average for the Tour; presumably Contador, Nibali and Froome will all be in the 30-40 range, making it a bit tougher even with a 180 budget.

Roll on the
Roll on the Dauphine!Although I can’t complain with my first stage win and leading the standings for a short period.

220 points and not even in the top 200 for the stage :”(
Talk about competitive, although Grand Tours always get like this towards the back end once you’re in big mountains, nowhere to make up ground.

I think most of us had wellens and henao , I was toying with cataldo for kelderman but I’d have had to take a penalty :/
My conundrum now is do I play safe and hope others gamble or vice versa …..I’m only missing 2 badges but I can’t see me getting either atm

Damn never mind, will probably cost me the 200 pointer and will drop places.Ended up with 1,2,4,5,7,8,16,19 + Ryder. will not be a good score.
Think I will go safe tomorrow, Ryder and Wilco out for Uran and Arredondo me thinks, or could just leave it as Wilco and Ryder, decisions
Funny we both chose Ryder but I kept Wellens and dropped Arredondo as I think the mountain point comp should be mathematically his by now. Not going to change anything but could do with Ryder getting in a break tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes. Only dropped one place to 4th but the gap opened up.
