Just a heads up about a couple of things with this race.

The race runs from Thursday 13th February to Sunday 16th February and has five stages with two stages, a short MM stage (stage 3) and a 18km time trial (stage 4) both being run on the Saturday. Given that one stage starts at 9am local time and the other at 2pm local time the intention is to run both stages in the game as separate stages so there will be a transfer window in between them. Just something to bare in mind when making your picks.

I ran the race last year and from memory it took a while to get some of the results info so it may be that scores are up later than expected and it's almost certain that I'll struggle to get stage 3 scores up before the start of stage 4 on Saturday afternoon.

The race website can be found at http://www.letourmed.fr/ and it has breakdowns of stages but no profiles (as far as I can see but my French isn't what it used to be). You can get more stage info at ProCyclingStats here (http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Tour_Mediterraneen_Cycliste_Professionnel_2014)

If you have any questions let me know.

I can’t remember as the competition archive isn’t that extensive, however I believe I came 19th with my normal team, but I know I won the purist overall with that team.

Not gone too big with ITTers with my purist, just 1 out and out rider, but that could change yet

One of the hillier stages last year was cancelled I think, otherwise maybe Roelandts etc wouldn’t have still been up there on GC. I seem to remember someone (TER?) picking his stage win at the end though?

With purist I’ve gambled on 5-6 TTers who also tend to like attacking on MM stages. Hopefully 2-3 of them will come off, i’ve been rubbish so far this season compared to last!

Chavanel could well have a go
Chavanel could well have a go now he’s a real team leader and IAM will want to put down a marker (plus they won the race last year) but this is the top ten from 2013

    Top-10 Previous Edition
    1.Thomas Löfkvist (SWE) IAM12:27:24
    2.Jean-Christophe Peraud (FRA) ALM,,
    3.Francesco Reda (ITA) AND0:11
    4.Maxime Monfort (BEL) RLT0:16
    5.Nicolas Roche (IRL) TST0:20
    6.Bauke Mollema (NED) BLA0:30
    7.Jurgen Roelandts (BEL) LTB0:41
    8.Gustav Erik Larsson (SWE) IAM0:50
    9.Alexandre Geniez (FRA) FDJ,,
    10.Arthur Vichot (FRA) FDJ1:06

I’m not sure if this is a race for the big guns to be honest, lots of second tier GC guys and people who wouldn’t get much of a shot in major races.

That being said, what is Cadel Evans doing there this year?!

    Unsure about Chavanel on this
Unsure about Chavanel on this one. He’s cock-of-the-walk at IAM and will undoubtedly lead them at TDF – but will he be genuinely arsed here? Common sense tells me ‘no’, yet I’m finding it a wrench to drop him from my purist. The course seems to suit him, even the summit finish (I recall him giving it a bloody good go once or twice in the moutains at last year’s Tour).

Profiles are available at pro cycling stats but I’m reading it as follows

    1)Classics type stage
    2)Breakaway chance
    3)Sprinters
    4)Undulating 18k ITT
    5)HC summit finish

Well spotted, thought I’d checked everything. Have updated it accordingly.

Given the short nature of the
Given the short nature of the TT (only 18 km) and the unpredictability of a 63km medium mountain stage including two category 2 climbs not bothering to make changes on that day might be a reasonable tactic.

Given that Sunday is the only real mountainous day and ends in a summit finish being able to throw some transfers at your team may come in handy.
