Scott Addict 30 disc, upgrade to shifters and drive train?

Picked up a 2018 Scott Addict 30 disc, bike is great but groupset is Tiagra 10spd – which is ok and functional but I think an upgrade is in order. The Tiagra 4700 shifters work but are bulbous fugly things which are about as aesthetically pleasing as Ann Widdecombe in lingerie. Due to cost am looking to upgrade in phases – 1st – An 11spd rear derailleur and crankset then shifters and finally front mech (tbh changing the front isn’t essential as I will be still be running a 2x compact and could live with the 4700 mech if I have too).
Shimano 105 or Ultegra for the drivetrain and shifters. Will the ugly shifters (temporarily) work with the 11spd upgraded derailleur – ratios will remain the same 50/34 with an 11/32 cassette but obviously 1 more gear – Tiagra 4700 and 105 have same lever ratio – so in theory – even though 10spd shifter – should work with the upgrade until I can swap to a 105 or Ultegra 11spd hydraulic brake & shifter lever set? – anybody else tried Tiagra 4700 with 11speed rear derailleur etc?

Mixing a Tiagra 4700 FD and 105/Ultegra 11spd – is not an issue as cable pull ratio is the same and I would be using a 2x crank. The hydraulic brakes also shouldn’t mind which tier levers actuate them. I just wondered if the right hand 4700 shifter would happily operate an 11spd rd until I can upgrade the groupset entirely. If it’s just a case of having to upgrade the whole groupset in its entirety then I will just run the 4700 till it’s worn and needs replacing, save up and do it in one hit rather than the staged upgrades I had initially planned.

    I think there’s something

I think there’s something funny with tiagra and cable pull can’t remember though, you don’t need a new crankset though if you go 105/ultergra that’s where most of the higher group sets weight savings come from iirc.

And I’m not sure if a 11 speed 105 front shifter will shift a 10 tiagra front derailieur.

same with the brakes, 11 speed shifters and 10 speed series brakes.

if you google lennard zinn I’m sure he’s done an article on it.

    Not very helpful I know!

    Has anyone attempted to run
Has anyone attempted to run an 11spd drive train with Tiagra 4700 10spd levers ? – in theory shifting should work until I can upgrade to the 11spd 105 or Ultegra hydraulic shifters in time. Advice greatly appreciated if any Road.CC ‘er has tried this out?
