Apologies if this has been discussed before – I missed it.

If Remco Evenepoel’s gold S-Works Tarmac was actually made from gold how much would it weigh and cost?

    Surely the more interesting

Surely the more interesting question is how much would it weigh and cost if it were made of chocolate?

    Gold isn’t nearly strong

Gold isn’t nearly strong enough to make a 5 kg frame. It’s about 2.5 times denser than steel.

Take a relatively light steel frameset… 1.8 kg.
Double all the wall thicknesses to account for gold having roughly half the Young’s modulus and yield strength.
    Multiply by the density ratio.

    1.8 kg x 2 x 2.5 = 9 kg.

    At $135/g, $1.2 million.

    At £100/g, £900k.

    Assuming frame only weighing

Assuming frame only weighing 5kg, about £500,000.
