hideous blight on the beautiful Georgian high street

Lymington high street parking charges get the go-ahead from Hampshire County Council

...the decision was attacked this week by Independent Lymington councillor Jacqui England as a council money-spinner that would be a “hideous blight on the beautiful Georgian high street”.

I think the councillor has just got the labels the wrong way round, easy to do.  I can illustrate how easy the mistake is to make with reference to Edinburgh (famous Georgian architecture although this pic is from the Old Town) and Utrecht:

The councillor is right - the parking will be a hideous blight on the street. Rather than allowing people to do it if they pay, they could try banning it altogether - that would solve the problem.
