I got an absolutely brilliant but new old stock (2009) Colnago EPS frame a few years back for £1,100. So definitely, for your money, look for a top spec frame that's a few years out of date, because a £1,000  2020 carbon frame won't be as good as a £1,000 2015 carbon frame.  Hunt around, there are bargains to be had!

Bargains, rim brakes too, both hand made in France:

More bargains, these are pro level frames ridden by Astana in the TdF:

Top level German tech:

I know you said rim brake but this is a bargain, these were £2,500 new:

All good frames. The Bianchi is even cheaper on their own website:

I've just built up one of these with Campag H11/Super Record, sourced from Germany for a song (again, last year's tech), pics in the "show us your bike" thread:

Don't go carbon for the sake of it.

You'll do well to get something better than this for £600: https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Cannondale/CAAD12-Road-Frameset-2019/JWU8

Always good advice to go for last years model, or even the year before that. The reality is the differences are 99% marketing fluff, but the prices are a significantly reduced.

I think we could do with more information, not just what type of riding you do but also what your current bike is. Presumably if youre buying a frameset you will be transferring the existing components over which means the new frameset will have to be similar e.g seatpost diameter, bottom bracket type / crankset, front mech mount...

Some other options to consider

Also depends on how good your existing components are and what age / condition they are in, you may find it better to buy a full bike for 1000.

This is a good point. How about carbon and (mostly) latest Ultegra for £900?

It's difficult to give any real advice and most advice you will get will be based on personale bias. I think it takes expereince of riding a bike for quite a while until you really know what you want.

The first thing I would ask is what style of riding? Long touring rides, fast training rides? Pottering about?
